Economic Analysis Unit

About the Economic Analysis Unit
The Economic Analysis Unit (EAU) is organized under the Office of the Secretary at the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA). The EAU's primary focus is providing analysis and forecasting of New Mexico's general fund revenue, national and state macroeconomic analysis, New Mexico oil and natural gas industry and labor market analysis, and fiscal impact analysis of proposals that impact general fund revenues and reserves.
The DFA's EAU contributes broadly to the consensus revenue forecast with coverage including the following major revenue programs:
- Gross Receipts Taxes
- Personal Income Taxes
- Severance Taxes
- Interest Income
- Rents and Royalties
After each consensus revenue estimate and legislative session, the EAU creates a financial tool known as the General Fund Financial Summary (GFFS). This summary provides a comprehensive overview of the state's fiscal status, including revenue and appropriation data for each fiscal year. It also highlights the ending actual balance and estimated balance for two projected years of the state's reserve accounts.
